June '06 - Stephen Finer Showcase

The Fusion Gallery is absolutely delighted to be showcasing the work of Stephen Finer. Stephen Finer is an acclaimed British painter who has been showing for over twenty years, receiving phenomenal recognition as one of the most distinguished artists of his generation, this is the first time his work has been shown in Spain. His paintings include those of Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Marlene Deitrich, Doddie Edmonds, David Bowie, Iman and Gill Bastedo.

His work is highly collectable and his painting 'Kitaj with his Hand on his Head' is now in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and other paintings are in many private and public collections including:

He was recently in 'Painting the Century 101 Portrait Masterpieces 1900-2000' at the National Portrait Gallery in London, where his painting of David Bowie is in the permanent collection. You can view 'Painting the Century 101 Portrait Masterpieces 1900-2000' in the Gallery.

Stephen Finer’s working practice involves long hours in his studio in London. He is reserved about his way of working. Some of his paintings are dense and heavily painted, the canvas is worked and reworked, some canvases are more spontaneous, although throughout, the paint is laid on with an energy and directness that probes the limits between representation and the abstract qualities of paint. With some of his portraits, it may be difficult to recognise each individual feature, but what is obvious is they are all positively vibrant with life and feeling. All of his paintings are oil on canvas.

On the lower ground floor we have a room dedicated to 8 of his paintings, which include one of Lord Shawcross. Hartley Shawcross, Attorney-General of England and Wales 1945-51 The Right Honourable Hartley William Shawcross, Baron Shawcross, GBE, PC, KC (4 February 1902 – 10 July 2003), was a British barrister and politician and the lead British prosecutor at the Nuremberg War Crimes tribunal.
